Frequently Asked Questions

Employee pulse surveys are shorter, more-frequent check-ins to help you respond to employee issues in real-time. Rather than annual or bi-annual employee feedback, pulse surveys allow you to pinpoint issues and work toward solutions before problems on your team have a chance to develop into larger issues.

Gusto’s employee pulse checks come with a list of pre-loaded questions that you can tailor to better fit your business. We recommend rotating survey topics each month to keep employee survey participation high and give your employees a chance to sound off on a variety of issues that could impact performance. You can find a list of our employee pulse survey questions here

Gusto’s employee pulse check surveys are fully automated and are sent out to your team once a month. You can choose which questions to add, or let us rotate topics for you. Responses from your team are kept anonymous so you can be sure you’re getting honest feedback when you need it most. We also integrate with your favorite performance management tools like Lattice and Culture Amp.

While Gusto recommends sending pulse surveys monthly, you don’t want to check the pulse any faster than you can implement changes in your business. If your employees feel they’re giving feedback but not seeing results, they could get “survey fatigue” and stop completing the pulse checks altogether. It’s best to start at once a month, and adjust it from there if you need to.

Obviously, we think Gusto’s pulse employee surveys are the best way to do it. We get it. You’ve done the work, created your survey, and you’re ready to act on your insights. Except—your employees haven’t filled it out. This is a common problem as businesses implement an employee engagement pulse survey for the first time. A couple quick tips are to make sure they know it’s confidential, share your own survey results, and share an action plan from the results you do get. This will let your employees know their responses can make a difference and boost survey engagement going forward.
