What’s happening and when
We introduced the new pricing plans in Summer 2022. The new plans are more straightforward than our legacy plans — Core, Complete, and Concierge — and they have more robust features for complex needs. Our new plans also introduce more flexibility for customers to select the service model that’s the right fit for them.
COVID-19 distributed more workers, and hiring across states is an advancing trend we don’t see going anywhere. We want to help with your clients’ hiring success as well as help them provide benefits to employees, no matter where they are. Given that multi-state employers have more complex needs for taxes, HR compliance, benefits compliance, and benefits servicing, we needed to update our lineup of plans to better match their needs and value to the right plan, allowing us to deliver the appropriate service.

Yes. Based on customer feedback, performance reviews and employee surveys are now available, starting with the Plus plan. Previously, they were only available in the Premium plan.
We want to make sure this is as seamless as possible for both your clients and your firm so we are offering at least a 2-month grace period to help with the transition.
For clients that are on one of the legacy plans and billed directly by Gusto, they will have until Sep 1, 2023 to select one of the new plans. If they haven’t selected a new plan by Sep 1, 2023, Gusto will automatically match them to the plan that best matches their legacy plan.
For clients that are on one of the legacy plans and billed directly to their accountant partners, you will have until Feb 1, 2024 to select one of the new plans. If a new plan is not selected by Feb 1, 2024, Gusto will automatically match your client to the plan that best matches their legacy plan.
Clients that are on the contractor-only or S-corp plans will not be affected.
The new pricing and any applicable pricing adjustments will be reflected in the invoice starting in the month the change takes place. For example, if you make a change on Aug 8, it will be reflected on the Sep 1 invoice.
Nothing changes in the structure of our partner program terms with you, including your access to VIP care if you have that today. Your firm has access to the Plus plan as part of our free firm payroll perk as of last summer. If you pass along discounts or revenue share, the percentage stays the same, and we will adjust it when your firm’s tier status changes.
We are focused on delivering a great customer experience and continuing our journey of improvements to ensure the timely and proper resolution of all customer support inquiries. From enabling the right technology, to simplifying our phone routing and tax resolution in-app submission, we are committed to continuously adapting our service to ensure we are a trusted partner to your business.
We understand payroll, tax, and benefits administration are complex and are here to make sure your clients are in compliance with state and federal laws.
For clients with workers in multiple states, the Plus plan is likely the best fit, however some companies may prefer the Premium plan because it comes with a higher level of dedicated support and resources.
Plus is much more than just multi-state payroll. In addition to multi-state payroll, Plus offers time tracking, next-day direct deposit, and performance reviews. However, for clients with fewer needs, Simple is a great choice for single-state payroll.
Hiring in new states
They will be prompted to upgrade to Plus or Premium before they can add this worker to their payroll.
Contractor payroll taxes are filed differently than W-2 employees, so contractors don’t count as an employee in a new state. If your client only has full time W-2 employees in one state and hires contractors in another state, they can remain in the Simple plan if it fits their needs.
Communicating with existing clients
A list of affected clients is available in your Gusto Pro account.
For clients that are billed directly by Gusto, they’ll be notified on Jul 11, 2023. We won’t communicate new plan information with your firm-billed clients, since we know accounting professionals have different practices for billing clients for their software.
