Hey there! What can we help you with?
You don’t have to be a payroll expert to get your startup up and running. With Gusto, you have a friendly team right by your side giving you the answers and advice you need.

Any questions? Ask away.
Running payroll for startups is as simple as setting up your Gusto account. You get your employees (or contractors) onboarded into our system, and we pretty much handle the rest. This means keeping you in compliance with state and federal laws, and making necessary deductions for things like Social Security and Medicare. And since Gusto was built with startup payroll in mind, you can be sure we have a plan that fits your needs—whether your business is brand new or you’re expanding even faster than you planned.
It sure does! Hiring contractors is a great way for startups to stay flexible as they go through growth spurts. Gusto makes paying contractors as easy as your full-time and part-time employees. We have support to pay contractors across all 50 states and more than 120 different countries around the globe, and we help you with any forms you might need along the way, from 1099s to W-2s.
The IRS sure doesn’t make things easy. Luckily, we’ve written a helpful article that lists the federal forms for startup payroll—along with links to download each of them. These are exactly the types of forms you can digitally sign and store on Gusto, so you’ll know they’re all in one easy-to-access place.
Gusto-brokered benefits administration is included for no additional cost with all of our plans. Which benefits you want to add is completely up to you.
Keep in mind, while managing your benefits on Gusto is free, offerings like traditional health insurance or 401(k)s will require monthly fees or premiums.
But some benefits don’t cost anything extra, like our financial planning tools for employees. Adding these benefits is a no-brainer for employers who want to take care of their team beyond the workplace. No matter what your business needs, we’ve got tons of payroll options for startup business.
You bet we do. Gusto handles all federal, state, and local taxes every time you run payroll. Whether you’ve got one employee or a hundred, we make sure your business stays compliant so you can stay focused on what matters most.
Sure! If you prefer paper checks instead of direct deposits, we’ll give you a template to print those paystubs yourself.
Quick tip: If you have employees interested in setting up bank accounts, employees can use Gusto Wallet to have their wages deposited into a simple cash account with a debit card. It’s a free financial planning tool and helps your team get access to their money quickly and easily.
Cash Accounts and the Gusto Debit Card are issued by nbkc bank, Member FDIC.
Yes! If your startup payroll is pretty straightforward, you can use our Payroll on AutoPilot™ feature. You just set your employees’ hours and wages or salary amount and when they should be paid, then we process payroll for you automatically every month. It’s a great way to avoid stress and save time. Plus, we’ll even send you a reminder one day before, in case you want to make changes.
Feel free to use the chat box in the bottom right corner of your screen. We also have a Help Center with answers, resources, and ways to get in touch with our team directly.
