Gusto and Xero Partner to Streamline Small Business’ Back-Offices

Lexi Reese COO, Gusto
Gusto Xero logos partnership announcement

We’re proud to serve small businesses every day at Gusto. These businesses are vital to America’s economy, accounting for nearly half of our gross domestic product. We built Gusto to help business owners and their employees make meaningful changes in their communities by removing the need for them to be payroll, health insurance, or HR experts.

Today we’re excited to announce Xero has selected Gusto as the preferred payroll provider for their accounting platform. Together we’re making it even easier for millions of small businesses to manage all of their back-office so entrepreneurs and small business owners can spend their time and effort where it counts—creating a booming business and a great place to work.

You may recognize Xero. For more than 12 years, Xero has built a leading accounting software that many small businesses and accountants use. About one in 12 Gusto customers use Xero and Gusto today. We’ve been partners for the last five years because we share the same mission of helping small businesses modernize their financial and people platforms by making complicated business tasks simpler and more human.

A deeper integration for payroll

As a part of our strengthened partnership, we’ll be building a deeper technical integration with Xero to make the customer experience even better. Our customers can look forward to these new features as soon as the end of this year:

  • Single Sign-On: Xero will give customers the ability to seamlessly access their Gusto account using their Xero credentials.
  • Cash Flow Management: Xero will be automatically updated every time payroll is run, providing an always up-to-date view of cash flow.
  • Accountant Collaboration: Small businesses will be able to grant their accountant or trusted advisor permission to manage payroll and generate payroll reports within Xero.

Bottom line

We’ve brought together two of the best platforms on the market—Gusto for payroll, benefits, and HR, and Xero for accounting, payments, and invoicing—into a deeper and more unified experience for small businesses.

Our experience for payroll, benefits, and HR will not change no matter what accounting platform Gusto customers choose. We’ll still pay and file all of the federal, state, and local payroll taxes in all 50 states, for example, and our three plans for business owners will continue to manage our customers’ business needs with the extraordinary customer experience they have come to recognize us for.

Hey gusto and Xero, please expand Gusto outside the US and make sure the integration with Xero goes with it. Gusto I appreciate you’re a benefits driven organisation, but you create massive time efficiencies in payroll processing. We have to use Xero payroll for payroll in Australia, NZ, and payroll providers for the EU and UK. If you both worked together to phase out Xero payroll and phase in gusto globally, you would wipe out the payroll market – you may not take such a blig clip on benefits, but you’ll take all that subscription revenue, which at the moment companies are putting into staff and external payroll providers. My payroll processing for 15 people in the US takes me 10 mins to process. My payroll for 80 people in Australia using Xero payroll and spreadsheets, takes 3-4 hours. Please make the move. We’re all waiting, and have been for years. I’d be a happy guinea pig, or happy to take a call on this anytime. Cheers
