Every once in a while, we like to showcase a new member of our growing team at Gusto by asking him or her five questions. This week, we want to highlight a recent hire on our growth team, Jake Lammert.

1. If you could get paid in anything other than money, what would you like it to be?

I’d like to be paid in “time,” similar to that scene from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. It’d be great to be able to do more things in one particular time. For example, ideally, I’d like to play nine holes of golf at 3PM and come back to work with no time elapsed. That would be amazing.

2. What do you consider yourself an expert on?

I was an amateur golf player and played golf at Rollins College. The best part of my game may be my short game. When I was 18, I shot 65 at a course near my hometown in Wisconsin. It’s possible I may have already hit my peak, but I’m hoping I can organize a Gusto golf team to polish my skills.

3. What’s one of your most memorable sales calls?

At Gusto, I run A/B tests on how we can better serve our customers, sometimes with phone calls during the work day. This means a lot of the calls reach our customers while they’re busy running their business. One time, I called someone right when they were actually in the middle of setting up payroll with us. I was able to answer her questions in real time and we got her set up right there. It was incredibly rewarding to hear how excited she was to get set up on Gusto. As they say, timing is everything.

4. What’s your favorite small business in your neighborhood?

I just moved from Palo Alto, but when I was living there, my favorite spot was the Tin Pot Creamery. If you ever make it there, be sure to try their salted butterscotch. I consider myself an ice cream connoisseur and it’s the best salted butterscotch I’ve ever had.

5. Every Gusto employee gets a free round-trip plane ticket to anywhere in the world on their one-year anniversary. Where do you think you’ll go and why?

I know Nikhil just said the same thing but I also would like to go to Thailand, but for my honeymoon. I’m a huge fan of thai food (I can eat pad thai all day) and there’s something really majestic about riding an elephant in the jungle.
