“Millions will fail if the government does not take bold action and fix structural flaws in how aid is distributed,” writes Gusto COO Lexi Reese in an op-ed published by Fast Company.
Black-, Latinx-, and women-owned businesses have been hit the hardest, and there are concerns that up to 90% of women business owners and those of color may have been shut out from accessing Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) funds. Reese calls for the government to implement structural changes to make the PPP work for those that have been left out, empower community development financial institutions, and provide continued relief to small businesses during this crisis.
