Gusto is pleased to announce the formation of the Small Business Relief Council (SBRC).

Background
The SBRC is an unprecedented cross-industry coalition of 80 organizations representing millions of small businesses across the country. The SBRC spans different components of the small business financial ecosystem and includes the largest banks, fintech companies, payroll companies, accounting firms, and software companies.
The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) was a landmark government program that required rapid mobilization by multiple industries to best ensure that small businesses were able to survive the pandemic. In responding to PPP, Gusto quickly learned that lenders and payroll companies were interpreting shifting Small Business Administration (SBA) and Department of the Treasury guidance in very different ways and mobilized to create a forum for stakeholders to align and to surface issues to the Small Business Administration (SBA). Gusto developed and leads the consortium, bringing lenders, fintech, payroll providers and accountants together to collaborate on regulatory, operational, and risk issues. While the forum started out small, it quickly spread across the financial industry as the place to openly share comments, concerns, best practices, rumors, and coordinate efforts on PPP.
Through this forum, top 20 financial institutions, professional organizations, including American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and American Bankers Association (ABA), and technology providers worked together to draft recommendations for Congress, the Department of the Treasury, and the SBA to shape the PPP and ensure that small businesses get the aid they need to survive COVID-19. Gusto provided the forum and leadership that allows all parties to speak with a single voice, to coordinate with government agencies in support of small businesses, and helped us all achieve successful outcomes.
Mission Statement
The Small Business Relief Council (SBRC) is a national, non-partisan coalition of financial institutions, payroll firms, CPAs, fintech and other financial industry organizations representing millions of small businesses. The SBRC is dedicated to helping small businesses survive the economic impacts of COVID-19, and to rebuild and thrive in the subsequent recovery. Members raise concerns, best practices, and coordinate efforts on Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans and forgiveness, and other critical programs. We share feedback and recommendations to legislators and regulators regarding programs that increase support for small businesses and their employees, and to stimulate the re-hiring of employees.
