Gusto applauds the adoption of the historic and bipartisan Infrastructure and Investment Act, which was signed into law by President Biden on November 15, 2021.
In May 2021, Gusto partnered with the National Association for Women Business Owners (NAWBO) to survey nearly 1,200 female business owners across industries regarding the needs of women-owned businesses. Respondents consistently highlighted the need for more reliable and affordable internet to enable business growth.
In June, Gusto sent a letter to Congress urging support for infrastructure development, particularly broadband, that would benefit small businesses.
Gusto is thrilled that the recently signed bill includes funding for broadband that will benefit underserved small businesses, including:
- $42.45 billion to states and territories to focus on unserved and underserved areas of the country for broadband expansion;
- $14.2 billion subsidy to qualified low-income users to help affordability;
- $2 billion for United States Department of Agriculture rural broadband programs; and
- $1 billion for middle-mile connections to build a high-speed backbone for communities, businesses, and anchor institutions.
Gusto will continue to advocate for policies and infrastructure that promote small business growth and resilience.
