Gusto Joins Coalition Letter in Support of CA Work Opportunity Tax Credit

Gusto Editors

On March 24, 2022, Gusto joined a coalition of more than 50 organizations in sending a letter to California State Senator Anna Caballero in support of SB 1349, which would establish a Work Opportunity Tax Credit available to California employers for hiring individuals from targeted groups who have consistently faced significant barriers to employment.

SB 1349 proposes adopting a state tax credit for employers using the same eligibility as the federal version of the Work Opportunity Tax Credit. This tax credit is more important now than ever, as many of our most vulnerable citizens were disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. Work Opportunity Tax Credits help to target jobs to these citizens and helps businesses recruit and retain new employees as well as assist employers with increasing labor costs in many of our service sectors
