If you’re looking a hotel with lots of character, this is it. The Roosevelt Hotel was built in 1929, and was named for wildly popular President Teddy Roosevelt. The hotel rises proudly from its corner on 7th Avenue, and the brilliant and original neon sign spelling out the hotel’s name in bright red letters tells you a great deal about what to expect. The Roosevelt is a tribute to a hotel style from an earlier era. Local jazz musicians play piano softly in the lobby. The fireplace warmly greets you upon arrival as the smiling bellboy grabs your bags. Comfortably overstuffed chairs are arranged in cozy seating arrangements, inviting conversation. This is not an intimidating, formal hotel. It is welcoming and packed with the kind of manners and little details your grandmother would have been comfortable with. Guest rooms are traditionally furnished, with dark wood headboards and paisley or floral print bedspreads. Color schemes vary by room, but most make use of creams accented with either blue and purple or soft rose. Nearby shopping makes the Roosevelt a great choice for shopaholics; you’ll find the flagship Nordstrom, Coach, Tiffany & Co., and MaxMara just a short distance away.
