This Philippe Starck-designed retreat is a bit PoMo, a bit surrealist, and all chic. Upon your first step inside, you enter a dream world where chairs are shaped like lips and blue leather sofas seem to float effortlessly above the ground. As you stroll past the interior courtyard garden, the pale green and blue sheen cast by the mood lighting will guide you to silver swan chairs, cobblestone benches, and one of the hottest bars in the city. The Long Bar’s stool backs feature painted eyes, so every patron receives the ego boost of undisguised stares. Light bounces off the stark white walls and furnishings, and the 80-foot bar seems to glow under its own power. You can simply take in the atmosphere and the clientele, or enjoy comfort food, including burgers and cheesecake. For a lighter meal, customize your menu at Jeffrey Chodorow’s ethereal Spoon. Guest rooms are custom-made for romance – in fact, familiarity is unavoidable. The bathroom and dressing area are screened off by plastic wrapped in sheer curtains, rather than solid walls. The ambient light emanating from the floor will direct your eyes to the oil paintings on the wall, the landscapes on the ceiling, and the leafed sleigh bed that awaits you.

socialite's rating:

"London is so fab because it’s European – but they totally speak our language. Every time I pop over I stay at the super chic Sanderson Hotel. In the penthouse, of course. The rooms are so unique and have glass sections instead of walls. It’s totally sexy. The Sanderson also has so much that I love inside the hotel. The Aqua Spa is so relaxing after a weekend of parties and shopping. Speaking of, the Long bar is hot. And it really is long! Alain Ducasse, who happens to be, like the hottest chef, has a restaurant here called Spoon. It’s like, if I had to be stranded at a hotel or something, the Sanderson would probably be a good one."
