just got back from fantastic cruise aboard the Island Princess in mid Sept/07
we ventured from Anchorage where we saw the city and the local native Indian museum
on down to Whittier and through Glacier Bay National Park, where the glaciers were
"calving" and phenomenal! then on to skagway, where we panned for real gold and
ran a tiny red tailed squirrel out of the cookie basket. Next to Juneau, where we saw
the gov's huge white mansion, and toured 4 glaciers in a helicopter, stepping out and
walking on one, which was incredible. Finally we saw Ketchican, and visited a local
wildlife sancturary, where salmons were spawning and 4 bears (one as close as 8 ft to us)
were munching away in the woods and the creek. Also, we saw reindeer,eagles, owls,
native totems, and whales in the inside passage.
A trip we will never forget and our kids and grandkids may never be able to see
due to Glacial melt.
