Occasionally, some people come to Las Vegas to work. Many of them stay at the elegant, comfortable and designed-for-the-business traveler Renaissance Las Vegas. In reality, Las Vegas is a booming convention city (and don’t think the clubs and bars a few miles away aren’t aware of this). Even if the boss has you on a conference call all day, you can probably still slip away later. This is the largest non-gaming hotel in the city, and it’s geared not only for business travelers, but also for those who need no entourage to prove their success. You won’t find flashbulbs popping here, but you will find state-of-the-art pool facilities, spa facilities, and plenty of extras such as CD players in every room. The Renaissance Las Vegas is next door to the convention center, but many visitors can do everything they need to without leaving the building. The rooms offer all the amenities business travelers need, in addition to some they don’t (such as a flat screen TV). Delightful color schemes with shots of celadon green, salmon pink, and daffodil yellow perk up the minimal, urban-loft chic furnishings. Checkered curtains, miniature flower arrangements, and plush chaise longues are just what the doctor ordered to bring a smile to a weary traveler’s face.

Downstairs you’ll find chef Richard Chamberlain’s new steakhouse, Envy. (As an aside, the name suggests jealousy, which it should, but it actually comes from “NV,” the state abbreviation for Nevada.) Envy is so good, in fact, that people are willing to travel off-Strip to check it out. The rich coral, red and orange colors of the decor are fresh, modern and very welcoming. The steaks at Envy are aged to perfection, melting in your mouth. Try the Kobe filet or Tuscan veal chop, paired with a Napa Valley Cabernet or Pinot Noir from Oregon’s Pacific Coast. The Renaissance doesn’t offer shuttle service to the Strip, something the bosses probably like and the conventioneer doesn’t, but there is a monorail nearby to whisk you off to a night of gambling.
