Satine on West Third Street showcases hip, young clothing, shoes, accessories and jewelry straight off the runway, or at least straight off the fashion spreads featured in Vogue, Elle, Nylon and Confidential. In other words, it helps to be a size two for any of this stuff to look good on you. Jeannie Lee and Sophia Banks, an ex-attorney and a fashion editor (Shop Lift), respectively, are two great lookin’ ladies who can pull off wearing all this soft, airy, shimmery glamour from designers such as Chloe, Stella McCartney, Ann Sui, Zac Posen and United Bamboo. At the moment, Satine is all about amorphous, flowing and see-through, as many of the blouses, camisoles, dresses and skirts will attest. Even the slacks (lots of cropping) and scalloped-waist shorts use comfy, silky material. Need new shoes? From cowboy boots to ballet flats to “do-me” pumps, Satine’s original, vintage-inspired shoe collection, called S&J by Satine, is seductive and expensive. You can also salivate over an inspired Marc by Marc Jacobs and Maloles shoe selection. (Reality check: A Y & Kei black skirt sets you back nearly $1,000; shoulder bags hit a high of $699; candles run $80.) Though Satine is named for Nicole Kidman’s character in Moulin Rouge, you’re more likely to see Kirsten Dunst, Nicky Hilton or Mena Suvari at the store.
