Mani’s Bakery is a surprisingly inexpensive, petite paradise for alterna-food lovers, diabetics and health nuts. Instead of chili nachos (which are also available), try hummus, pita and vegetables. Instead of fatty cakes and cookies, try some egg-free carrot cake or a slice of chocolate raspberry cake with fruit juice concentrate and barley malt. Need a pick-me up? Try some high-quality, hand-roasted organic coffee from Costa Rica or hot tea (with organic soy milk, natch). If smoothies are more your thing, the Amazon acai (made with acai, guarana, banana, strawberry and apple juice) will give you a boost of anti-oxidants. “My Name is Earl” star Jason Lee and fellow Scientologist pal Giovanni Ribisi are both fans. Service is slow, especially on the weekends, but if you can muster up the patience, the food is worth the wait.
