Some visitors to L.A. get lucky and catch a glimpse of a famous face everywhere they turn while others spend two weeks and see diddly squat. If the latter is the case on your visit, you might have to settle for seeing the “stars” on Hollywood Boulevard; the Hollywood Walk of Fame is home to more than 2,000 terrazzo and brass stars honoring artists from film, TV, radio, recordings and theater. See Lucille Ball at 6100 Hollywood Blvd., the Beatles at 7080 Hollywood Blvd., Marlon Brando at 1765 Vine St., Alice Cooper at 7000 Hollywood Blvd., Tom Cruise at 6912 Hollywood Blvd., Britney Spears and Nicole Kidman, both at 6801 Hollywood Blvd., and Ozzy Osbourne at 6780 Hollywood Blvd. Stars chalk up a whopping $15,000 for the chance to be eternally admired by hordes of impatient tourists, homeless wanderers and scantily dressed clubgoers who stroll down Hollywood Boulevard each night and day. The least you can do is take a quick photo and be on your way; if you’re really lucky, you might just happen to be passing by when a dedication ceremony is taking place. The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a somewhat tacky way for Hollywood to (again) congratulate itself, but hey, at least it’s free.
